Education: A Bridge to the Future

Wellesley Reads Together

By Ann Howley, Trustee of Wellesley Free Library

What an exciting time in Wellesley! Beginning this fall and stretching into spring 2012, citizens of Wellesley can participate in a series of wonderful programs and events offered by various Town groups through Wellesley Celebrates Education. For its part in Wellesley Celebrates Education, the Wellesley Free Library has chosen to inaugurate its first Wellesley Reads Together Program (WRT). The goal of WRT is to be a true community building program.

The WRT Committee has chosen two books - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver, Steven Hopp and Camille Kingsolver and The Good Garden by Wellesley resident, Katie Smith Milway. Programs and events are scheduled from Oct. 1 to November 13. The Committee and the Library staff have worked hard to put together a diverse, educational and fun filled calendar. One of the early highlights is the Harvest Dinner which will take place October 6 at the Wellesley College Club. The menu will feature ingredients available locally and give attendees a chance to discover local resources. Visit the WRT website - www.wellesleyreadstogether.org for full program details and to sign up for dinner.

Everyone associated with the Wellesley Free Library is pleased to help celebrate what makes Wellesley such a special place to live - its all about community - its all about education! The celebration culminates with the opening of the new high school which is one very visible sign of the value that we in Wellesley place on discovery and learning. The Board of Library Trustees, Administration and Staff of the Wellesley Free Library (WFL) are proud to play a part in the Wellesley Celebrates Education initiative. As one of the prime gathering spots for Wellesley residents of all ages, the WFL is the place where education comes alive, questions are asked and answered and new horizons discovered regardless of your age or circumstance.
